About

Varsha Suresh

Based out of Bengaluru, India, I am a level 1 certified Emotionally Focussed Therapist. With extensive and intensive training in Couple and Family Therapy as well as Clinical Psychology, I work with individuals, couples, families, teenagers and sometimes children. While my niche lies in systemic therapy often pertaining to couples and families, I also extensively work with individuals.

The framework I use in my sessions is largely based in Experiential Therapy and the Systemic Framework. I believe that we do not live in isolation and therefore our experiences shape us and our understanding of the world around us. We also largely operate in various systems across our lifetimes. Processing how these different systems play a part in our lives helps us understand ourselves better, thereby finding better solutions to our problems and experiences. That being said, I also tend to draw from other modalities of therapy as and when necessary, on a case by case basis.

With my training and working experience both in India and the United States, I use a multicultural approach in my work with clients. I also am a multilingual therapist with proficiency in English, Kannada, and Hindi. Working with clients from across continents helps me broaden my perspectives and horizon to understand human behaviour, experiences, and tendencies better. I believe this enriches my interactions with my clients.

While initial training is very important and lays the foundation for our work as mental health practitioners, I believe that human behaviour and interactions are not constant and hence I constantly attempt to up my skills and knowledge via attending workshops, seminars, certifications and engaging in research.

When not working, I enjoy spending my time travelling, reading, colouring, and sometimes exploring cafes.

Experience
Therapy with me

In my work with clients over the years, I believe that as a therapist, while I may be an expert on the subject matter, I am not an expert on the lives of my clients. I therefore like to have a collaborative approach to therapy as I am of the opinion that the clients know what is best for them. I, as a therapist, am only present to facilitate this discovery. For couples and families, sessions will be a combination of joint and split sessions to help bring forth the patterns of interactions and change.
